SWVNA Meeting Minutes - JULY 15, 2009

Mike Pool welcomed everyone and briefly reviewed the intended purpose of the association, i.e. to foster a sense of community among those in Southwest Vienna, and to become involved in the process of local government and work with our Town leaders to improve the quality of life in our town. It was noted that the purpose of the association is not to impose any type of additional restrictions, fees or regulations of any kind on our citizens. Mike described the information available on the web as follows: Our mailing list is SWVNA@googlegroups.com; our Google Group is http://groups.google.com/groups/SWVNA; our website is http://SWVNA.org.

Sonnet Lee reported on her meeting with Minh-Hai and Eric, who have volunteered to help with our website. They are looking into what tools are available to provide the type of capabilities that we would like. Kudos to Missy Walsh, who volunteered to liaise with Marshall Road School, and Jerry Butkus, who volunteered to do phone service if we need it and perhaps take on some Treasurer duties in the future! Future meeting locations were discussed. Sonnet is working with Marshall Road School to see if we can meet there and if there is any cost.

Various topics were then discussed by the group, to include our relationship to the old Southwest Vienna Citizens Association. The consensus was that everyone is welcome, and that if anyone knows members of the prior group who would like to join us, please ask them to do so. Suggestions for our website included a link to Officer Murphy’s weekly report and other info on the Town of Vienna website. The need to have more information about the current plans for MetroWest was discussed. Anne volunteered to try and get more information on what is going on and report it back to the group.

The draft by-laws were discussed. A suggestion was made to include information about appointment of special or ad-hoc committees to address specific topics or issues as needed. Anne will work on incorporating this change. Building up our membership was discussed, and the need to identify people who are interested in serving as officers as well as identifying reps to advisory groups. Everyone was advised that the next meeting is scheduled for seven o’clock PM on 18 August at the Patrick Henry library.

The meeting was adjourned at eight o’clock, with thanks to all who attended.
